Check out their website....

As of yesterday I saw three new models/lines announced there.
I will be getting a GS Mini-e Walnut in the very near future. It will be my office guitar.

Well there are more armrest bevels, from their new ultra-affordable Academy Series to their new 800 Deluxe instruments.

And for those looking for eye candy without spending a lot of money, the new 200 guitars with the outrageous quilted maple veneer are stunning. Like looking into a clear swimming pool on a sunny day.

And they have partnered with Guitar Center for an exclusive 50 unit John Pretucci Artist Choice 916CE, that comes with a signed vinyl album, custom strap, and other swag. They are also doing 20 units of the same for the overseas markets.

From an email I received today from The Acoustic Letter today saying these new models were being announced at NAMM:

"The Academy Series:

The new Academy Series features two different body sizes, Dreadnought & Grand Concert, AND a 12-fret nylon string. The ES-B pickup with on-board tuner is also an option. The Series also features Taylor's popular Armrest... never before available in a guitar at this price!

GS Mini-e Bass:

We've also very excited about the new GS Mini-e Bass. That's right... a short scale bass featuring the GS Mini body with the ES-B Pickup & Tuners are standard!

ALL new 2017 models feature the Taylor deluxe gig bag and are priced well below $1000!!

*Please note that these models are due to arrive in the next few months. Supply is limited so call or email now if you would like to pre-order.

Solid Spruce tops (Sitka or Lutz)
Layered Sapele Back & Sides
ES-B Pickup/Tuner optional
Mahogany Armrest (Academy series)
1 11/16" Nut with (1 7/8" on the Nylon version)
Medium 24 7/8" Scale (Academy series)
23.5" Scale (GS Mini-e Bass)"

Ummm, not really. I have a Kala UBass and I tried the GS mini Bass today. It might be closer to the UBass than a P or J Bass, but it really feels more like a GS mini. I was not able to plug it in, but it didn't have the same almost upright bass sound the Kala does.

So, it might be a cousin, but not a brother.

Woah! I didn't mean to imply it was bad. My post was meant to clarify that it is not a UBass clone. Apologies if that was not clear.

I have the fretless Mahogany Ubass and I love it. I am intrigued by the GS Mini Bass.

The GS Mini Bass is not the same thing but more expensive as what was stated. It feels like and is the same size as a GS Mini. A UBass feels and looks like a baritone ukulele except for the strings and the sound (pitch, tone, etc.). Unplugged the Mini seemed louder and more "acoustic bass guitar" like than the UBass does. The UBass sounds more like an upright bass.

I still want to try the GS Mini plugged in to a decent bass amp and try it then. There were no bass amps available to plug it in.

If you're comparing the two, you will want to do that side by side and plugged in.

You bet! Besides some new finishes for the thinline models, and new custom options, they are replacing layered Rosewood with layered Walnut, a GS Mini bass, and the new Academy series featuring solid tops, layered Sapele back and sides, and a Mahogany armrest priced at $499 without electronics. The series includes a nylon string that is way too much fun, a super versatile Grand Concert, and my favorite, a 7/8 size dreadnought with a deeper body for added power. All three models feel super comfortable in the lap thanks to the armrest, and given the price, I'm guessing Taylor is receiving tons of orders at NAMM.
