Because Even though you and I might know how non representative that poor quality can be, I would not assume that everyone is acutely aware of that fact .
And honestly even though I am completely aware of that fact, but if the sound is really bad ( as if often is ) and I do not have prior knowledge of how the artist actually sounds if find it very hare to get enthusiastic about pursuing further investigation . Just a thought.
We're guitar players - we DO notice these things. Non-musicians? They listen to music on their phones with one side of $10 ear buds! Or music coming out of their tablet's 1/2" speaker. No, they're not judging the music's quality at all, they are looking to see if the people at the show are having a good time, and maybe trying to figure out what genre the music is.
