So you want to avoid fender looking classics, buy you're considering a tele?

The Nashville tele is a great choice...not exactly like a Strat sound on the in betweens, but close, and the neck and bridge pickup are far superior, because they're tele pickups. And teles rule.

What exactly is "the strat look"? Maybe let him speak for himself.

He's right, that asymmetrical horn design of the Strat and it's derivatives is what I want to avoid.

I'm sure there are other exiting contenders out there. Some have emerged in this tread.

I think a Telecaster could work also. (Bridge pickup in some Telecasters is not dissimilar to that of a Stratocaster and the middle position is more or less similar to that of a Stratocaster also).

Of course they are not exactly the same. (No five position switch or tremolo being the obvious).

Ovation Viper from the 70s/80s. As stratty as any strat. Good model are around 600-800 bucks. Awesome guitars.

There's no confusing this for a Fender.

I honestly have no desire to own a true Fender and my Stambaugh B-Bender is about the closest I will ever get to a traditional guitar.

That being said, I'm contemplating a Stat-ish style guitar soon. The Strat body shape is very ergonomic. I'll most likely go the fancy schmancy route and order something like this.

Interesting model. Never seen it before. Very bright sounding PUPs.

How about a Burns Marvin or Burns Legend . A FretKing JD would also be a good guitar to try

Default What guitar sounds like a strat but doesn't look like one.

Kinda makes me wonder what Gibson came up with the first two times Team Corvus dropped acid..
