XLR/TRS or 1/4" with Taylor ES?
With my Taylor ES (514ce) I have a couple of connection options:
1) Use a 1/4" unbalance cable from the guitar to the 1/4" input on an acoustic amp or mixer. 2) Use a balanced XLR/TRS cable from the guitar to the XLR input on an acoustic amp or mixer. Do I lose something by using the 1/4" cable, rather than the XLR/TRS cable? What are some of the other considerations? Thanks for your advice. |

it depends on how far your cable needs to run:
under 15-20ft you will be fine with 1/4" TS anything above 20ft you will need a DI box if you go with a 1/4" TS, that or use a 1/4" TRS or XLR. I personally find a 1/4" TS more flexible cuz I can use a DI box and split a signal for monitor through an amp. That and most non-ES guitars/basses sound better through a DI box since it has a much higher input impedence to match passive pickups. |
