Show us what your 'ideal' guitar sounds like.
I always find it interesting what people think of when they think of the 'perfect' guitar sound. How id the perception formed? Is it a song you heard growing up? Is it an average of all the guitar songs you ever heard? What is it? Let's hear what you think is THE sound.
If there is more than one sound, then show us each. But link to either a youtube video, or mp3 or something that has a guitar sound either alone or in a song that is what you think of as the 'ideal' sound. Could even be a recording of your own guitar. Let's hear it! |

This pre-war 1934 D-28 in this guy's hands, for me the combination is the epitome of acoustic tone, the "perfect guitar sound:"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JFgC3Ub10E Recognized it when I first heard it, it was a sound embedded in me at some molecular level. A love at first note sort of thing. I love lots of other guitar sounds as well, but this was my first and deepest, and the sound is most definitely the combination of wood and player, no substitutes of either can reproduce it. |

For me, the ideal sound varies with the song. I think the Collings OM1A that Pete Hutlinger plays on his album "Santa Anita Connection" is one ideal in my head. Fortunately, I own one of those and appreciate it very much.
I also recently learned Al Petteway's song "Smoky Mountain Morning" and "Spindrift" and the Ryan guitar he is playing on that video is absolutely gorgeous sounding. Paul Simon playing "Old Friends" on that Martin OM-42 on the Simon & Garfunkel recent video taken at Madison Square Garden in NYC sounds awfully good to me. The Olsons that James Taylor plays for his recent songs sounds awfully good, too. Just a few examples... Regards, Glenn |

Demonstrating by playing recordings is really about what ideal guitar recording sound one likes rather than about a specific guitar's real sound as the same guitar even with the same guitarist sounds a myriad of ways in a recording depending on the recording setup used and environment it took place in. That's fine. Just don't make guitar purchasing decisions largely based on recordings.

This is why I first picked up an acoustic guitar:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0YANM9lz4c Nothing like an old Gibson in the hands of a man who knows how to use it. (And the solo is the main reason I have a few Teles hanging on the wall.)

I'll see your J200 (very nice) and raise you a Goodall baritone:
