Hi Jim!

Thank you for listening and commenting! I do agree with you and my wife, too; I really like the 12-string on this song.

I have also been thinking about how much a person can do with a simple set of chords -- G5, D, Cadd9, D -- not very complicated, but I have always liked this song!

Very nice rendition Glenn! I had tried working with this somg about a year ago and found out it looked easy on the outside, but it was awfully tough on the inside. There's no room for error; your timing and vocals have to be spot on.

Thanks for posting it.

Best,

Rick

PS - glad you're on the mend. Better to wear out than to rust out!

Another great job, Glenn.

Say, how do you coordinate the two videos you apparently make?

Alison Krauss's version is my favorite. Somehow she gives it a Beatles vibe. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Rick,

Thanks for your thoughts and comments.

The song does take good timing and it takes some practice to get reasonably accurate on the intonation, but for whatever reason, it fell into place fairly quickly for me -- which is good, because with all the driving I have to do for physical therapy, I lose about 7 hours per week of time these days.

And thank you for the good wishes on my recovery. It has all gone pretty well; I feel very fortunate.

- Glenn

Hi Ipa53!

Thanks for your comments and for listening.

Regarding my recording method, these days I am using 3 cameras plus I am recording the audio separately with 3 good condenser mics going to my computer using Steinberg Cubase. At the beginning of all of the recordings after everything is turned on and recording, I make a hand clap so that I have some sudden transient that I can use for synchronizing everything.

I use Adobe Premier Elements to put everything together. In that program I can cut each video recording at the beginning of the hand clap. Then I can add the audio track, which I also cut in Cubase right at the beginning of the hand clap. After everything is synchronized to the hand clap, I then delete all the audio from the video recorder tracks, which sounds relatively low-fi compared to using very good mics and Cubase.

With this particular video with all the edits and fades and pans and zooms, it took a couple of hours to do the programming and rendering of the program to make the final video.

I hope all that makes sense.

Regards,
Glenn

Hi Meredith,

I certainly agree about Alison Krauss's recording of this song. To me, just about everything she does is top notch.

Thanks for your thoughts and for listening!

Hey Glen. Nice. You have a good timbre to your voice it's pingy and sounds strong. I like it! That bright quality but still feels relaxed!

Glenn, that was lovelly, i play that song also and its always a crowd favourite

Just one suggestion, i notice when you sing you tend to point your neck upwards. This by nature brings up the larynx upwards. This results in a speicfic tone, which you might be trying to capture stylistically here.

But as an idea, consider singing the same with your neck straight or slight down, your larynx will be even and you might find you will get an even deeper, richer tone.

Just passing on some learnings from my jourey wiht vocals.

Hi GP,

Thanks for watching and for the comments!

Regarding singing technique, thanks for the suggestion. However, my oldest son is a voice teacher so I am well aware of the effects of jaw position, etc.

Ignoring all the stuff about singing technique, I would like to have my voice back from when I was about 30-40 years old, but I consider myself lucky to be able to sing at all as I approach age 70.

Thanks for listening GP.
