As Joel just mentioned, these two guitars he's making, "Thing One" and "Thing Two", are staying in the Teel family. While I'm certain that both are going to turn out way above average, ESPECIALLY for first-time instrument builds, these guitars are destined to be family heirlooms, not objects of commerce. When Joel does hang out his shingle as a professional luthier-for-hire, though, you'd better get in line early if you want one. For now, be patient and watch!
I really enjoy seeing how much of a family affair this is for the Teels. Joel's lovely wife, Rebecca, is enthusiastically watching her husband patiently crafting these guitars, observing the daily progress, asking lots of questions, and eager to learn more about it. She's fascinated by the whole process, and she's so supportive. Joel married well- that's an understatement. The whole family is 100% enrolled in the idea- following your dreams, making them real, and living life with passion and Grace. Scroll back up and say hi to Leonard Teel, Joel's Dad. He comes over every day or two to check on the progress, see what we're doing, and hang out with us while we manufacture large quantities of wood dust. Leonard also follows along here on the forum, and he watches Robbie O'Brien's Luthier Tips du Jour on You Tube. And the circle is widening. The whole family, and friends too, are cheering for Joel and me like we're famous local celebrities. I'm SO glad and grateful to be a part of this, with such excellent folks.

oooweee! those are some dandy and extraordinary specimens of those woods. At a glance, I would almost have double bet that Indo-Rosewood was ziricote. And that African Imbuia is a really classy piece. I can see why these will be staying in the household. Are you sure you're not ready to open up your build list?
Stellar choices and stunning work for a first up, JT. You go, dude!

Thank you, Jeff. Steve has me attempting things that I wouldn't have even considered if I was navigating these first two builds without his guidance.

Thing One and Thing Two look beautiful! I love the wood you've selected and your work is so clean. And you have Steve singing your praises as a luthier on your first builds! So cool! Congratulations on the shop and this great start!

Thanks for visiting Beth...
Steve has said on many occasions that he would like to, one day, return to the Pacific Northwest and open a school teaching lutherie. As the beneficiary of his desire to teach, I can say, unequivocally, that his school will be a huge success. Steve has the "IT FACTOR" when it comes to sharing his knowledge. It's a gift, just as his ability to build fantastic guitars is a gift.

Here are a few pictures of the rosette work. The main ring is Maple Burl, and then a series of rust, black and maple rings. The soundhole is bound with black fiber too. After I set them into the channel, I decided to give each one its own personality by inlaying abalone and white MOP dots and copper rings into them.....
Thanks for following along... Joel Teel

You won't believe the copper rings in the rosette on his current build 😳 Or the Koa... Or Walnut... Or Cocobolo builds 😉

Wow, Joel--these are really looking fantastic!
Love the woods, and it's obvious your attention to detail is way out there in the upper percentile! Thanks for sharing these with us...
