Default Any Tricks for Recording with Headphones' cable driving me nuts?

I'm sure I must be missing something easy...
I've been recording lately with my headphones on to monitor. The headphone chord seems to want to dangle between my arm and guitar which is pretty annoying. I've tried to move stuff so it hangs along my back only to find a "cuffing feeling" against my head (and some surface noise).

What do you guys do to keep the headphone chord out of your way when recording?

Thanks a lot!

David

I just run it down my back. Not sure what you mean by "cuffing feeling".

Run the cord down the inside of your shirt

Not sure if you're using a headphone extension cable. Allows me to run the cable behind me and mostly out of the way.

I am guessing an "extension cable" as Rodger mentions, is what you are missing ( If I guessing correctly what "cuffing feeling" translates to)

It's what I use an have not noticed any problems

Surface noise: is a matter of learning to sit or stand still. Which is pretty much requisite when using sensitive microphones, headphones or no.

Try switching the headphones on your head so that the cable is coming out of the left side if you've been using it on the right and visa versa.

And the cable extension can be really helpful too, depending on how far away the monitor is.

+1 on the extension cable.

Run it so it comes to your recording position from behind you and let the headphone cable hang down your back. Leave a lot of extra cable there so you can move your head without pulling on the cable.

I find the straight cables are best for staying out of the way...the coiled cables never seem to behave as well.

Another plus for an extension cable. Get one long enough that it can easily go behind where you'll be sitting and throw the headphone cable behind you.

Thanks everyone for the thoughtful replies.

I am going to order a longer "non-coiled" extension and try running down my back.

The "cuffing noise" I was referring to is the noise made when the chord rubs the front of my shirt on the top of my chest as I move.

Thanks again.
