K&K pure mini for strumming?
I've done some searching on the forums here but haven't found much specifically regarding the K&K pure mini in a guitar mainly for strumming.
Anyone have experience/ insight with the K&K for lots of strumming. Before I go ahead and buy one I'd like to be sure it's the right fit for my usage. Thanks all.

I've heard plenty of strummers with K&Ks and they do fine. |

Strumming is where the K&K makes the biggest difference!
At least vs. USTs that I have used. To me, USTs sound OK finger style but bad when strummed aggressively. The K&K SBT sounds much better than a UST when strummed. Tim |

Hey Zhoken
From my experience the only scenario where the K&K is not optimal (alone) is in large ensembles where you would need to cut through the mix. And that is only at high volumes. In that case combining it with a sound hole or under saddle pick up would help. For solo and/or light ensemble strumming it is great.

I am primarily a rhythm strummer, and strum pretty heavy, at times. I use a K&K Pure Mini, and it does fantastic. I also happen to front a full band, and with the right eq, my guitar cuts through just fine.

No problems whatsoever with strumming my guitars that have K&K's.
But I don't play acoustic guitar with a loud rock band. Seems like the few complaints about the K&K's on this forum have tended to come from some of those who strum their K&K equipped guitars while playing with loud drummers and electric guitars and got feedback and/or a muddy tone. However, that has never been my experience.

I have a K& K mini installed in my Sigma DR 45.
It works best for me with a Red Eye preamp with the boost button on all the time. Sounds supurb . you get the warmth of the K&K and the red eye just helps to add some sparkle and clarity & definition. Sounds great strummed or fingerpicked Dave |

It's a very subjective topic for sure. The K&K would not be my first choice for strumming and it probably wouldn't be my second. The pure mini is awesome and I have nothing bad to say about it but when I think of strumming, I think of a nice clear tone that cuts through the mix.
In my band I strum quite a bit (celtic group) and I need something with a nice crisp top end. The K&K is far too warm and when driven, I find it gets fairly muddy. I haven't found the same issue with the Trance Amulet oddly enough. I think it's all just up to personal tastes. We all strum differently and we all play in different venues and groups so it's sometimes difficult to give an exact answer. |
