Calibrating non-digital hygrometers
I have a little (pocket watch size) non-digital hydrometer (you know, with a needle) and was just wondering how to calibrate it. I got it as a gift and the giver said the cigar store guy said to wrap it in damp cloth. How long do I leave it in the cloth? any other steps to doing it? Thanks for any help.

Andy
Get a medium sized tupperware type of container with a lid that seals. Place the hygrometer face down in the container (so you can read it before you open it). Place a smaller container of table salt in the container with the hygrometer. Add a few drops of water to the salt. Not to much water, just enough to wet the salt. Seal the container for 24 hours. Your hygrometer should then read 70%. Adjust to 70% or mark whatever the number is as 70%. |

I think the salt test should give a reading of 75% instead of 70% when properly calibrated

Cigar site...that reminds me of how my favorite guitar shop (all acoustic) used to be downstairs and a cigar shop upstairs, but now they own both levels....Probably shared the humidifier
