Default Gotoh 510 Tuners?

Hello,

Does anyone have Gotoh 510s on their acoustic guitar? What are your thoughts, especially in comparison to comparable Schallers and Grovers.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,
They are without any question, the best tuners I have ever used. Period.

I've had waverlys on a bunch of guitars and although they are obviously very fine pieces, the Gotohs are every bit as good. Cheaper, and a bit more comfy to boot.

As a result they are on all my acoustics.

Grovers and Schallers work well... but I think the overall quality of the Gotohs is much better.

The bad thing is putting 510s on a Grover-equipped guitar..you have the screw holes exposed because the set screw location does not match between the two. Personally, I could care less about the holes no one can see, but if esthetics are important, the 510s may not be for you.

Best tuners I have used too. Goodall switched to them, but they aren't using the "Liver" shaped buttons. I like the buttons on the 510's.

Top notch tuners. I have them on one of my guitars and they are smooth as silk.
Custom builders are singing their praises also.

There was a thread about these on the Lowden list. My Lowden has Gotoh tuners, but they are not 510s. However, the folks there said the 510s will be a perfect swap for what is already installed.

I'm thinking about it.

Anyone know where I could buy a gold set with black knobs?

Kathy Wingert also favors Gotoh's. I borrowed one of her guitars (German spruce/braz) for a week with these tuners and liked them very much.

Gotoh 510's Keep in mind EACH means a set of 6. I first thought it was $78 for just one tuner.

My Martin HD-28V has open backed Gotohs on it I prefer sealed tuners. Would tuners such as these being discussed, mount with no modification. Ain't drillin' on the Martin. I know the open backs are for the vintage effect etc, etc. and I don't know that I'd change them, just collecting info right now. Thanks.

many of the top hand builders use the gotoh super 510s. they're very highly regarded. my newest guitar has them and they are the best tuners i've ever used. i love the tuning ratio. i was cracking up the first time i tuned up with them - on just how much i could turn them round and round. extremely precise.

paul, you might give lmi a call on the gold with black buttons. that's what i have and i'm pretty sure that's where ddb got them. looks like there's a link above.

Thanks for the replies!

Any sources for these other than lmi, stewmac.com and allparts.com?

Also, what's the difference between the regular and the mini (or mini-hybrid) version in the Link below? In other words, what determines the size you would choose for replacement or for a custom guitar?
