Default Is your skill/talent matched to your guitars?

After reading here, it's clear that many think that the best guitars should be owned by those with the most talent/skill.
... and entry-level guitars are appropriate for those with entry-level talent/skill.

If that's true (I'm not saying it is) is your skill/talent well-matched to your guitars?

I'll quickly add that as a teacher I've noticed students with better guitars (and/or guitars with good set up) advance faster and are less-likely to quit.
Better guitars egg them on to advance faster because they are able to do higher-level things than they can do on lower-level or poorly-set up guitars.

I stongly encourage students/parents to buy better instruments.
It can be like pulling teeth; I can't tell you how many parents (with new $100,000+ BMWs and Mercedes in the driveway) say they can only afford $99 for Sally's first guitar.

IOW, I do not agree with the premise of this poll though, clearly, many here do.

I had to vote that my guitars exceed my skill/talent, based on the initial premise.

But I also disagree with that premise. It's those of us who can't play well that need the great guitars most. The guys that are monster players can make anything sound good.

I'm the poster boy for 'below average player with some above average guitars'.

silly post. It's a free country. You don't have to deserve a nice guitar. Just want it badly enough to pay the money. I started out on the cheapest, most miserable p.o.s. of a pawn shop dust catcher imaginable. It was a waste of time to even try. I finally figured out the value of a good quality instrument after acquiring one and learning to play it. In the 45 years that has passed snce then, I have bought the best I could afford. It is the cheapest in the long run, to do so.

My guitars don't do anything unless I play them so I think we're pretty well matched.

This!

I need all the help I can get but I do realize that I do have a cap on the "help" I can afford.

It's a ridiculous premise...there is NO correlation between the two.

I'm not sure many here agree with the premise of the thread; I've noticed an insistent few.

There are a lot of great luthiers who'd be out of business if only virtuosos could have nice instruments.

I almost feel bad for my 000-28 it's so beautiful and can sing like an angel when I'm having a good day. Most of the time it's near blasphemous how my poor playing defames that instrument.

One day I'll be worthy, hopefully sooner than later.
