Man of constant sorrow...how to play
Trying to work out Man of Constant Sorrow...
A few youtube videos indicate DADGAD tuning and capo on 3 giving key of F... And watching Dan Tyminski playing on a few videos I do find... It appears to be correct...I think... BUT...it seems that F is a rather unusual key for bluegrass... I would like to do it in G...so I tuned to DADGAD and capo on 5 and key of G... Now the intro seems to be about the same as Dan plays it... But when I try to chord to the 4th and 5th (C and D) it sounds very strange... And I'm using the fret patterns for DADGAD that would give me G and A... But moved up starting on the 5th fret... Does anyone have the intro in G...or direct me to more info so I can play it in G... Many thanks

Me too. And Dan as well, I'm pretty sure. D-ADGB-D
I thought it was capo II (so in the key of E), but I could be wrong. Just in case, this is the "Sing into the can" version from the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou".

Are you sure? I was under impression he used drop D, so D-ADGBE.

Here's my favorite version on youtube. Description says it's in drop D.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VllXkRZJrKU I've learned bits and pieces of this version a few times but never spent the time to get all...someday! |

His live version at Crossroads with Ron Block shows his guitar capo'd at the 3rd fret. As to the tuning, I dunno.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYHHVg5gTls Drop D...he's capo'd on the third fret that puts it in F...so I'll just go up 2 more frets and get G....
