Default How to increase hand strength when you have nothing else better to do

As a kid, I studied classical piano for many years and was taught a couple of neat (and cheap) tricks I'd like to share.

One of them is to simply "clap" my fingers against the palm. If your hand is weak, you won't hear much clapping. As you gain more strength, you should hear a loud clap when you do it.

The other exercise is to "push" the skin between each finger in order to maximize hand span. Don't overdo this one!

These are silly tricks but I've used them for 25 years now -- and it works!

I would tell you another but my Grandmother said you might go blind if you did it too much.

The trade off is definitely not worth if if you ask me.

Funny how that changes from one culture to another.

My grandmother said I'd go deaf!

You replied to the wrong post. It's the other guy who said he'd go blind...

back to the OP,

I heard an M.D. recommend simply squeezing rolled up socks to work on muscles that compress, and using a rubber band looped onto fingertips and opening up the hand to full extension so those other muscles get a workout.

Somehow, there will be no associated loss of vision or hearing.

I recently discovered that putting one of those little Kleenex packs in the palm of the fretting hand and playing with that in place was a good workout.
