Default Basic Fingerpicking Christmas tunes?

Howdy all...

I'm starting to think about learning some Christmas music for the coming holiday season...and in brief searching on line I've found basic chords...or extremely complicated fingerstyle arrangements....I'm looking for the middle ground...can anyone point me toward basic fingerstyle Christmas tunes? I'm looking for something to sing along with not wow people with my instrumental skills.

Thanks!

Blue

I have this Mark Hanson book of Christmas tunes, and while 10 are pretty involved, he has a section of 20 or so that are "EZ Tab" where it's more basic fingerstyle, with the chords and lyrics, for singing along to.

Guitarnoise has a nice, simple version of Silent Night, as does the Beginners Fingerstyle web site.

Hi Blue,

Perhaps some of these will help you? There's some interesting stuff here. Hit the buttons top left of the page for play/hear etc.

Hope this helps you. It has provided me with some variety...

Here's an easy one I enjoy playing this time of year:

http://www.get-the-tab.com/misc_chri...es_117058.html

Pretty basic, and the chords are helpful. Once you get it down you can add your own bits to spice it up.

I've had some fun with these--not exactly fingerstyle, but chord melodies. And the complete book is a free download!

A Fingerstyle Christmas by Happy Traum

I got this and I like it. He gives several versions and arrangements of each so that you can make it as simple or complicated as you would like or are able.

Yes, when I discovered frettedinstrumentsnyc.com a few years ago I was so overwhelmed with joy I had to immediately send an e-mail to the guy who put it together to thank him (a really nice guy, by the way, based on my e-mail conversations).

I think it would take me several lifetimes to master all of those arrangements.

Another WONDERFUL resource is http://dirk.meineke.free.fr/ (sort of off topic because I don't think there is any Christmas music there, but I couldn't resist adding this link).

By the way, Doug Young has put together a lovely DGDGAD arrangement of Bring a Torch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW-YzEgC30s
He has been very nice and put tablature for this up on his web site. This might be more complicated than what the original poster was looking for, but this is the most exciting pieces I have worked on in a long time - I almost have it down.....maybe I'll be there by Christmas???? It is harder than his also very lovely arrangement of Shenandoa, but aside from getting the harmonics part smooth it is really not that hard to learn (no really difficult acrobatics/stretches with the left hand).

Some tabs here, some difficult looking but not all look too hard:

Nice thread - thanks for the other suggestions!

Actually, following on an earlier post, pointing to the arr. of Silent Night on Guitarnoise (good site), there's a whole page of Christmas songs, here:

Good suggestion, I have the book and it is good. Mark has another one also with 3 different levels of tunes in it. It has a total of 12 songs in it. Mark's style of playing incorporates alot of alternating thumb work, get his first Travis picking book as well.

Take a look at Skeptical Guitarists Christmas books. Bruce Emery has a great fingerstyle book with several different versions of the same song with differing difficulty levels. I liked it so much I got the strum along version too-same format as well with simple arrangements along with more complicated ones. Bruce is a great guy and is around if you need to ask him any questions too.
