Indeed.

And I very well remember the telethons he hosted; live TV, big fundraisers...nothing else like them.

RIP.

A very funny guy and a positive force. RIP

When I was a young (perhaps 10-12ish) he organized & promoted a public fundraising effort for Muscular Dystrophy that I was part of. My 5 closest friends and I put on a "carnival" in the back yard of my friends house in our neighborhood. We built things like hoops for basketball shots, game to knock over metal bowling pins but pitching balls, home-made skeet ball, etc, etc, etc (you get the picture). We sold tickets for admission and tickets at each booth/game to all the locals who came by and wanted to play. We certainly had guidance from our parents, but it was a kid effort. We had a ball and learned something about civic engagement. In the end we raised $186 and we're invited to appear on the Salty Brine kids show in Providence RI to hand over the money and receive recognition for our efforts. In 1960 this was a fair chunk of money. What a great memory.

I best remember Jerry Lewis for the annual Muscular dystrophy telethon. My sister's and I also did a backyard MD carnival. It was a great experience.
Thank you Jerry for all of your humanitarian efforts and all of the laughter you gave us for so many years.
Rest in peace.

He'll be missed. I really enjoyed his movies with Dean when I was younger.

For those of you who may not know this;

Jerry Lewis was made an honorary member of the Order of Australia in 2014 for his services to charity.

He'd raised at least $2.6 billion for muscular dystrophy worldwide by that time and lent his services to the cause in Australia.

Mr. Lewis took his star power and used it to give back. I was a semi-fan of his movies (I found him too frenetic) but his charitable work was tireless and huge.

Godspeed, Sir. And thanks.
