Stephen Kinnaird SJ (2007) $4,000 or Trade with a Froggy Bottom.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1922447746...84.m1555.l2649
Just thought I'd list this sublime Kinnaird SJ which is listed on UK eBay. I'm very apathetic about selling it because it's genuinely a top drawer guitar. However I play 95% fingerstyle & I also own a few other top drawer fingerstyle guitars. So I rarely use the pick & therefore rarely play the Kinnaird SJ. BUT when I do play it.....boy does it sing. I'm genuinely on the fence over whether to sell it or not. My philosophy is "if it sells then it sells...decision made." Otherwise I'm happy to keep it for the time being. I don't really need anymore guitars but I would always be tempted into trading for a Froggy Bottom model (F12 especially), a McAlister or top Goodall. Otherwise I'll sell it to any US buyer for $4,000 OBO. Cheers. Last edited by neildealdylan; 09-20-2017 at 10:42 AM. |

I looked at your listing. Is this a Dread or SJ?

This is an SJ model (small jumbo) but it's very dread-like in size, although the sides are more rounded like a Slope D. Even though the LB is almost 16" wide, it feels very comfortable to hold because of more rounded proportions. I don't like straight sided dreads one bit & this one wowed me because of it's feminine curves Here's a link to the SJ model on the Kinnaird website.

My S. Kinnaird is a lifetime guitar. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon it. For those unfamiliar with Steve's work you will be in for a real treat.

To the top...
Thanks Frank (Transylvania) for the positive comments & of course I'm in full agreement with you. Both yourself & Steve are very discerning when it comes to top end guitars. So I'll bump this special SJ to the top because it deserves to be played more. I'd love to keep her but I'm no pick specialist. She deserves more playtime. If I'm to let this one go, I'd rather sell her. BUT I'm open to trades with a Froggy Bottom, McAlister & special Goodall...even if I don't really need them!

Emails replied to....
Emails replied too......certainly if a sale is out of the question, a trade with a fab Froggy, Mcalister or special Goodall. Otherwise, regardless of the offers & trades, this one is still available.

If there was a viable way to do a trans-Atlantic trade I would be lobbying you for it.

Deserves to be played more... bump
A little nudge to the top.....just to inform any prospective US buyer. Generally it only costs $120, give or take, to ship to the USA & from many past experiences, the guitar should arrive at your doorstep within 2-3 days. It's really not big a deal at all.

Back in the spotlight......
Took this Kinnaird to an open mike night over the weekend because my buddy needed some back up, using a pick. Everyone was in awe of this guitar & it made some of the vintage Martins/Gibsons sound like toys. Someone offered me his SCGC Tony Rice plus substantial cash in trade but not interested. So I'll give this supreme guitar another "deserves to be played" bump & hope some pick specialist will take the plunge. Otherwise I'm happy to keep it although it's a luxury item which is little played. No one will be disappointed in this & no doubt, going by the enquiries, it would have gone a long time ago if it was based in the USA. No idea why the international divide scares some of you folks but que sera sera

Why is it a flatpicker?
Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly makes this not a fingerstyle machine?
My three John Kinnairds are really SUPER for both flatpick and finger/thumbpick! Best on this Cheers Paul

Ultimate versatility......
Hey Paul,
You're right & maybe I'm underselling this beauty due to apathy. When I played the Kinnaird SJ at an open mike night over the weekend, everyone commented on how exquisite it sounded when doing fingerstyle numbers. Initially I took the guitar to give some back up to one of my guitar buddies using the pick but I played a couple of ballads using fingerstyle too. Everyone commented favourably about the guitar's tone & everyone wanted to try it out later. Even though I've never used the pick up before, I've been told the electrics are fabulous incidentally. I guess what I'm trying to say is if you just wanted one guitar which did everything well then this is your ideal guitar. But I own quite a few top drawer guitars and because I play 95% fingerstyle, I tend to gravitate towards my Tippin, Goodalls etc and they are specialist fingerstyle guitars. So the Kinnaird SJ is not being played as much as it could. These days I only play a few hours a week anyway so it's a shame it's being underplayed. It does deserve to be played more & to be honest I may decide to keep it and sell one of my other fringe guitars instead, like my Goodall RS or Martin HJ38 (Stefan Grossman Ltd Ed). I like them all equally for different reasons but something has to give. Another reason why I opted to sell the Kinnaird SJ before my others.....it's way too blingy for my taste. The bearclaw sitka is very pronounced & there's so much high grade abalone on it that it looks too "busy" to my eyes. But others comment on how gorgeous she looks so I guess one man's meat is another man's poison, so it goes. But make no mistake this guitar is an incredible all rounder & no one will be disappointed by it's fingerstyle merits. |
