This is an amazing guitar! I got to play it earlier this week while I was travelling for guitar shopping “vacation” for a few days in the various west coast cities.
I got to play A LOT of high-end guitars this week and this guitar was #3 in my final section of top five, in this order:
1. Walker SJ
2. Somogyi OM Brazilian
3. Kostal DM Brazilian (this specific one that Dave is selling)
4. Traugott R
5. Olson SJ Brazilian
Considering that all the guitars in this list are $20K+ guitars, with Walker and Somogyi in the $30’s, this is a stunning guitar at a fantastic price that Dave is asking.
(I tend to like more “modern” sounding guitars, so the final selection favored those guitars that meets that sound characteristic.)
This specific Kostal DM sounded very good and in fact was better than a Somogyi DM that I also played, which surprised me.

This guitar happens to be the the same cost as my roof replacement. I don't think a guitar like this one wins out.

I am curious about the Modified Dred design. I understand it is a Somodji design, is that right? Tell me what makes it modified? And for what purpose? It's not like I get to go play one of these.

The mod-d is designed by Ervin in late 70s if I remember correctly. Mainly for artists under the label Windham Hill Record, like Alex De Grassi or William Ackerman. They simply need a more balance instrument (compare to normal dreadnought's bass dominant sound) with better intonation and sit better on the lap. There're many features make it modified: shorter 25.25'' scale, 1-3/4'' nut, higher waist, thicker saddle, totally different inner structure etc...

Jason's guitars are beautifully crafted and sounded out of the world, I loved every single one I played, good luck with sale Dave.

This video also explains the Mod-D pretty well:

Ha! I am not sure if anyone NEEDS a Brazilian back and side guitars! But I totally WANT this! Too bad I bought another guitar from you not to long ago, AND I have a new guitar coming in next week that I've commissioned about a year ago and I need to pay for that. Otherwise, I will be all over this! Great sounding guitar!

I don't know Johnny, you may be confusing your "wants and needs"...!
