Default Acoustic Combo Amps

I did a search, couldn’t find anything recent. What are some suggestions for a good combo amp, with these features:

2 channels (or more)
Decent EQ
Effects are nice
<25 lb
$500 or so

Wow, that one does look interesting. Tons of knobs and features. Sounds great too?

I love mine. It's a little cumbersome to adjust on a dark stage with the small, recessed knobs, but it more than makes up for that with its features and performance. My favorite feature? The 'Hi Z' setting allows the amp to drive a relatively low output pickup beautifully, without a preamp.

Great amp.

Fishman Loudbox Artist > Close to your budget from an awesome AGF sponser whom I've bought from several times...a very versatile amp with great power, tone, weight and easy layout of features in 2 identical channels. This amp does both guitar and vox well...I've done lots of a gigging with one of these! This includes a nice slip cover too.

- or you can step up to the AG300 with the 25% off sale Carvin's having right now; I use the MB12 dedicated bass version (single channel, same speakers/cabinet) with my Rainsongs, and while a straight-ahead electric guitar amp is a better match for my Ovations it seems to work well with more modern UST-based or dual-source systems...

Just throwing this out there...small pa system not an option? For that budget, a Yamaha DBR10 and a small mixer with effects could give you an excellent full range sound that could reach out and touch a couple hundred people if need be.

If you're dead set on a combo amp, the Carvin sounds good to me.

Yeah I’ve considered a FRFR, and am open to that. I know acoustic amps don’t color your sound like electric amps... but they still color some, where FRFR don’t much at all.

Did you recently have and sell an older Schertler Unico amp?

I'll be ordering an AG300 as soon as they're back in stock.

When I finally settled on the AG300 last week I went to place my order and...

...they were sold out.

The rep told me they would be back in stock soon.

I can wait a bit.

Yeah, and the same sale has the Carvin 200 for $375.

I might just buy it for the sake of a ridiculously great discount.

Don't know what kind of guitar(s) you're going to be running into it, Chris - I'm using CF jumbo 6- and 12-strings and a J-45 knockoff with an aftermarket mag/mic dual-source system - but given Carvin's stated frequency response of 70-18.5k (speaking as a Carvin owner, with a sealed/unported 2x6.5" cab I'm thinking that's a -5dB figure at best, more likely -10 dB) you're going to be losing a lot of the natural low-end response/impact if you use a dread/MJ/jumbo; if you play fingerstyle on an OM/000 or nylon-string, or want that edgy Tommy E. tone, you'll probably like it as is - and if not, there's a compact 1x15" bottom available that'll give you a full-range stack. Again speaking as a Carvin owner, be advised that their solid-state gear is biased (no pun intended) toward a strong treble response - as I said my own MB12 makes a great acoustic-electric amp, but requires some major EQ tweaking to sound natural with my Gibson SG bass - so bargain or no bargain, give it some thought before you lay down your hard-earned bucks...

Carvin's webmaster must be smokin' in the boys room.

I haven't been able to navigate their site since yesterday, everything seems to link back to the home page. Oh well...like I said, I'm in no hurry.

Yea, it's kind of "circle jerk". Round and round you go.
