Default K K MIni and L1 Bose

Attempted to use a L1 Bose yesterday supplied by the venue. My guitar with a KK mini installed wouldn't work. Fortunately, I had my gear as backup. Does the Bose not work with a passive pickup? Do I need a pre-amp for it to work or was there a problem with the L1? They had the 4 channel add-on so I wasn't plugging directly into the two channel unit.

I've plugged my Martin D-18 Authentic with passive K&K Pure Western Mini pickup directly into the Bose L1 Compact without any issues at all.

Do you mean they were using the T1 mixer?

If so, channels 1, 2 or 3 should work perfectly well.

I play at an open mic that uses an L1 with my Pure Mini Passive equipped dread, and they do use a little direct box on the way in ... a little Whirlwind I recollect. Not sure if a DI is absolutely necessary, but they use one.

I have a K&K mini and keep my Pure preamp handy just in case. I seem to get plenty of passive signal out, but still...

What does wouldn't work mean? No sound at all? Low volume? Poor quality sound?

I find when using my K+K pure mini that some engineers are expecting an active signal (like my partner's Taylor with ES2 system) and they've questioned whether my pickup was broken (no, it's just significantly lower level).

Channel 4/5 is designed for line-level inputs. That's probably the issue.

Thanks, all. Sure glad I packed my own gear. It was actually the first time at a gig with my new SA330 Soloamp. Worked like a champ.

If you are going to gig, it's not a bad idea to have decent knowledge of signal processing and sound reinforcement items.

K&K Mini works great with the L1 and the 4 channel preamp. In fact I'm gigging tomorrow with that exact setup. As pointed out, you do have to plug into one of the first 3 channels.

And since you got no sound at all, my guess is that the channel was turned off. Each channel has its own mute button, which glows when pushed onced, and goes dark on the second push. And I never remember what you want, a glowing button or a dark button (though I should know by now). I'm amazed at how many times I've played and got no sound, but that's when I'm practicing...though I still screw up when gigging and have multiple guitars plugged in, but its a real quick fix: hit the button again.

I know nothing about the L1 and was totally relying on someone else. Bad idea, I know, but that's why I brought my own gear, too.

I have the K&K pickups (passive) in both my Gibson J-45TV and Martin HD-28V. I have an Allen & Heath non-powered mixer and I connect that directly into my L1 to the left channel, pan everything to the left and it works great. I use the Pure preamp, or a Red Eye, and sometimes a Baggs Venue DI. It works just fine.
