Question concerning purchasing first acoustic guitar
I would like you opinion.
an older (2004?) Washburn 10sceb vs New Yamaha FG700S Acoustic Guitar. The price is the same $200 and the Washburn looks to be in great shape. Thanks for your insight. |

Unless you just want the cutaway, I would go with the Yamaha. That little solid-top is a good value for a couple of Benji's.

They are both decent guitars, I'd say play them and then decide, you may go either way after checking the sound, playability, and comfort.

I'd play them both and then decide which one I prefer (very honest with yourself).
If you cannot test, then go with the one which "looks" like a solid deal to you. Hope this helps.

You need to compare the way they play. I own a Yamaha FG 700 S and it plays well and has great tone. Just FYI.

For $200.00 the best buy out there is the Epiphone AJ-220S. Solid spruce top with Mahogany back & sides. Believe me, this guitar is incredible for the money. Much better sounding and playable than either the Yamaha or Washburn. Check out the demo and review videos on YouTube. I have played the Yamaha and Washburn and own 2 Epiphone AJ-220S acoustics, one in natural finish the other in vintage sunburst. I also own Guild and Martin acoustics. Please consider having a look at the AJ-220S.

Most would say the Yamaha. I would restate the above - you have to play both and see which one fits your style and tone desires the most. Then, that is the best one for you.
