Default For all ye Tommy Emmanuel fans

You may like this new album which has similar music:

Truth be told I'd even daresay it sounds better than most of Tommy's stuff, especially as almost every song has a nice melody, whereas in some Tommy albums it's two or three good songs and the rest aren't as appealing.

I don't think they sound similar at all. Other than the fact that it's instrumental acoustic guitar music.

Both are excellent players.

Thanks for posting. He is a fine young player and with each year gains a bit more soul in his playing. Still not in Tommy's league at all, but steadily becoming a more interesting player IMO.

Great stuff thanks!!! I love him. I don't see the necessity to compare him with Tommy . There's room on my iPod for both...that's why I opted for the 64 GB model

Honestly, can't see even a remote likeness to T.E. ... hadn't heard of him and, after, hearing the samples, can't say there's much soul there. Different strokes ...

I think Sungha lacks variety in his compositions. His melodies all sound like the same G, D, and C progression being played over and over again. That doesn't mean he isn't a good player though. =)

I quite like Sungha. I have to admit that I've never heard any TE to be able to compare them. Where would be a good point to start with TE. Any 'stand out' albums please?
Thanks

I really enjoyed that video advertising Sungha Jung's new album. I thought it sounded really good. When it becomes available, I'm going to buy it. I like what I am hearing from him.

Regarding Tommy Emmanuel, I would go to You Tube, search for Tommy Emmanuel, and listen to some videos for a while, where it's free. I own and enjoy pretty much all of TE's albums, so I'm not sure which to recommend... Maybe his album "ONLY" is a good place to start. I think his newer double album, "Little by Little" is good.

Tommy also has a lot of performance videos out that are quite good and some instructional stuff, too. Seeing him in person, if you like his music, is quite an experience.

I'm not the biggest TE fan, nor am I the highest SJ, but I will comment that I find their playing and writing styles very different.

Sungha can certainly play very well I have watched most of his stuff on YouTube and think it's very good. There is a vid of him playing with TE somewhere as well.

Here he is with Trace Bundy. http://youtu.be/4IQYpopq6jA

I like his tunes but I think he runs the risk of sounding too "poppy" if you will, it's the pitfall of every fingerstyle instrumentalist. I'd like to hear him play or write something a bit darker or quirkier.

I like Sungha and think he is a fantastically accomplished player.

But you have to remember that Tommy is an "entertainer" as well as a guitarist. I don't think Sungha can enthrall a thousand people in a hall yet, like Tommy can.

When Tommy was half Sungha's age, he was touring up and down the East coast of Australia with his family, honing his entertainment and guitar skills in front of pub and club audiences everywhere.

Sungha may get there yet. I wish him all the best. But right at this moment, if you asked me which of the two I would rather sit in front of and listen to a 2 hour show, my money will be with Tommy.

Maybe Sungha doesn't want "to get there yet".

Not every musician has a goal of putting on a "show" like TE. Many are perfectly happy composing, performing, and/or recording spectacular music...whether that's to an audience or 0, 50, or 2000.
