From Jimmy Buffett's "Migration":
"I'm gonna buy me a sweat stained Bogart suit and an African parakeet. And then I'll sit him on my shoulder and open up my trusty old mind. I'm gonna teach him how to fuss, teach him how to cuss, and pull the cork out of a bottle of wine."

It's tough for me to choose. Picking two from songs I recently heard:
Bright Eyes: "But me I'm a single cell On a serpents tongue There's a muddy field where a garden was And I'm glad you got away But I'm still stuck out here My clothes are soaking wet From your brother's tears" Jack Johnson: "When all of life Is in one drop of the ocean Waiting to go home Just waiting to go home And if the moon Can turn the tides, it can pull the tears And take them from our eyes And turn them into monsoons Make them into mon - Sooner or later they'll weave their way back to the sea Gonna finally be free Yeah, free for a while Until they break Like waves of sorrow Always break all in due time Cause time never waits"

The bottle had robbed him of all his rebel pride, so I sang Dixie as he died.

"And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon God they made. And the sign flashed out it's warning, in the words it was forming. The sign said the words of the prophets re written on the Subway walls..."
Everyone knows that line, or lines. From Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence" "All the prophets are laughing, they way 'we told you so'. It's one thing to play guessing games, another to know..." From John Denver's "Stonehaven Sunset" "But ya ought to thank me, before I die, For the gravel in ya guts and the spit in ya eye Cause I'm the son-of-a-(BEEEEEP) that named you "Sue.'" Probably one of the most recognizable lines from Johnny Cash. Or how about: "There's a battle outside and it is ragin'! It'll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls for the times they are a-changin'." These are some of my favorite lines to come out of such great artists. Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, John Denver, and Paul Simon aren't famous because of how they played, but they are very famous for what they said, and how they said it. I agree, great thread! --James |

One from a Pearl Jam song that I've always loved called I am Mine...
"I know I was born and I know that I'll die, the in between is mine" Another from Dylans Forever Young... "May your hands always be busy May your feet always be swift May you have a strong foundation When the winds of changes shift May your heart always be joyful And may your song always be sung May you stay forever young"
