I met Moon around 30 years ago. It was during a parade and i was walking down the street with my guitar and he called me over. At the time I had a `51 J-45 that was one fine guitar and i was a young aspiring fingerpicker. He proceeded to play the crap out of my guitar and handed it back saying "That is surely a great guitar..I think i`ve worn out more than one J-45". I just stood there with my mouth hanging open from what i just heard/saw..

he has to be in his 80`s by now and this post reminds me that i`m long over-due for a trip to Mountain View..

I'd like to meet him while he's still around... I missed doc, Chet, and reed, several others. I wonder if he still goes to CAAS? I'd like to meet some of these legends.

I can't find any of his CDs for sale either btw

Tommy Crook. I grew up seeing this guy play in tiny bars and restaurants. Not much video of him but if you look around you will find a few.

This dude is off the hook, I can't believe I've never heard of him before. Truly an undiscovered master!

Great thread! I love thumbpicking and am looking forward to finding new music.

Some of my favorites (maybe too obvious):

Doyle Dykes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljQ9GgVtYvs
Pat Donohue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apkBD7wIaWY
Marcel Dadi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Z5nqeI-Arc

Great thread indeed! One of my favourites is Martin Simpson who wields a thumbpick with fabulous result!

From a workshop playing slide blues http://youtu.be/HHY74AjKRjI

A real gem, Martin playing Bob Dylans Boots of spanish leather http://youtu.be/rFPygYxbvVg

Wonderful interpreter of traditional folk http://youtu.be/O9qh3QSAt3g

The first tune that I thought of was this Don Ross tune: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TLWzY-Pkuw

He does some pretty nifty thumbpick up and down strokes to get that bass line.

I really like Doyle Dykes. He takes Chet and Merle and does some of the best I've heard anyone do. Enjoy.
