Default Taylor 214ce Koa

I am interested in opinions on a Taylor 214ce Koa B/S Spruce top compared to a Guild GAD F40 Maple B/S Spruce top

I haven't played that Guild but own a Taylor 214ce-k dlx and a Westerly Series (GAD) Guild F2512e (12 string)

- Right off the bat there's a big difference. The Guild is all solid while the Taylor has layered (laminate) back and sides. It's up to you how important this is. To this point, I believe that Taylor makes a great sounding, laminated B/S guitars.

- Guild is made in China (I believe) while the Taylor is made in their Mexico factory (30 minutes from their American factory).

-I don't see that the Guild has electronics while the Taylor has the ES-2 system, which I love but some don't.

It's hard to compare for me because I love my Taylor and have never played that Guild. Of the Guild GADs I have played, I've been impressed. I don't love the gloss on the necks but the overall construction is very solid and the sound is quite good. I've been dying to play one of their new US made D-20s.

You're best bet is to play both and pick a winner for you.

I'm asking for your opinions because I have the Taylor 214ce Koa plus a 214ce DLX and a 414ce so I am thinking about getting rid of the 214ce Koa and buying a Guild GAD F40, but I have no idea how they are for I have no way of playing one I have only seen it on line so your input would help a lot. Thank you

That makes sense. Although I can't comment on the Guild have you played a bunch of different guitars at you local stores? Even if the stores don't have the Guild you may find another manufacture that really peaks your interest.

If you do go online for the Guild make sure there's a great return policy.

I've owned and played several GAD Guilds and they did sound good. I have Martin, Yairi, and Taylor guitars and Taylors have a better resale. I like the 214ce koa better than the 214ce dlx I had before. I gig with a band and it sits in the mix better with the mids of the Koa wood.

I think the 200 series are fine guitars. I can't vouch for Koa, but they are good guitars nonetheless.

Since the B/S are lam. would there be much difference in the sound of the 214's?
The Koa model is very nice looking though.

The Koa wood guitars I've played have more midrange which I like for playing in a band. The 2017 214ce koa has the ES2 system like the high end models. Of course you'll pay for the price increase.

Rocker, to be honest I already have the Taylor 214ce Koa and I'm trying to make up my mind if I want to sell it and buy the Guild GAD F40 maple in it's place. Thanks for all of your input.
