Confused newbie.... re: 2006 Martin D-15 or D-15M
So... I am going to buy a used guitar from a member here. Any replies here aren't going to change that, but still, I'm curious and confused....
He has researched the serial number on it, and it is a 2006 model. Does this make it a D-15, or a D-15M ? It has white pegs...not the ebony one I see in other pics. Can someone enlighten me ? Thanks so much ! Michael

It should say right on the sticker or on the neck block inside the sound hole.
In general, a Martin D-15 is probably made with sapele and a D-15M would be genuine mahogany. If the wood has wide parallel stripes, it is sapele. |

Pretty sure a 2006 would be a D-15. Martin has been calling it the D-15M only in more recent years. In addition to the white bridge pins, a "D-15" also has a herringbone rosette, which the D-15M's don't have.

Thanks.... the label just reads D-15. I'll try to attach some pics...
Ok....no luck with that..guess you have to be a paying member for that option. Can I assume that if I'd an "M", it would say so on the label ? I have a pic of it on my hard drive....and there's no "M".....

That's what I thought... my googling revealed that the M series started in 2010.
Thanks people ! Michael

Thanks, but no success. It still says I need permission to post pics. Not important, I believe I got the answer I was looking for.

If it's a 2006 it is a D-15. The dead giveaways would be the herringbone decal rosette and the more traditional "28 style" fretboard dots as opposed to the minimal snowflake fretboard dots on the D-15M.
As was mentioned, between 2006 and 2009 Martin made the 15 series guitars using both Honduran Mahogany and Sapele depending on availability in the factory. However, generally, the further back in years, the more likely that Honduran was the tonewood, so it's a decent bet a 2006 would be Honduran (though great guitars can be built from either tonewood).
