Help replacing tuners for a 1952 Gibson J-50 ?
When I bought this guitar, I was told the tuners are unoriginal, but after doing some research, they look original to the year (to me at least).
It doesn't matter too much to me whether or not they're original, I want to replace them regardless for newer machines with a higher ratio. Do these look like original Klusons? I can't find any markings on them at all. I'd like help identifying them and ordering replacements that don't require any drilling or other modification. I'd like something equally light as these...period-correct would be cool, but not at all necessary. Something that's an easy swap-out, light and accurate. Thanks for your help! |

These look like they would work:

those appear to be the original type. As to them being the ones that were on it new, who can say? I have a 54 J45 that had incorrect replacements on it when I got it. I replaced them with new Kluson's. They fit correctly, and work well. They are not as smooth as rotomatics, or waverlies, but are correct for the guitar. How do you like that big tone these things make? I just love playing mine, although I can't go for very long before my shoulder starts to worry me.
