Using the truss rod to fix high E string buzz
Hello, guitar-playing brothers and sisters.
The high E string on my Fender Sonoran is buzzing. The action on the other strings is perfect. I've never adjusted a guitar's truss rod before, and I have an "allen key." 1. Should I crank it clockwise or counter-clockwise? 2. How far should I turn it? 3. How quickly will I see / hear results? |

Ok, we first need to know if it's the open string that's buzzing or when fretted and which frets??
Has it started doing it out of the blue or has it been like that a while? String buzz may not just be due to the truss rod needing adjustment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ok, if it only buzzes on the open string then it is most likely the nut slot at fault (rarely the saddle). The neck should be adjusted correctly and then the nut slot checked and filed with the correct tools. Try pushing the string into the nut slot with your fingernail and then play the string, if the noise goes away you know the slot needs attention. The slot could also be too low allowing the string to buzz on the first fret.
A buzz on an open string on a new guitar should be covered under warranty. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Just a quick check for you.
take a piece of paper and place it on top of the first fret, using your finger press the string down onto the fretboard between the 2nd and 3rd fret. How does th paper at the first fret feel, tight, loose, tears Steve

I had a spare high E string lying around and replaced the old one.
That solved the problem for now. I feel an odd mixture of relief and stupidity. Thanks for trying to help. The comments you gave may come in handy some day. You are good people. Last edited by Uncle Clownmeat; 04-13-2017 at 08:05 PM. |

It is possible to have a bad string that buzzes so maybe that was it. Was the string you put on the same gauge as what you took off? If not it will be sat in the nut slot differently and may relieve the problem it has, if it has one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
