I've seen many dumb guitar related things come down the pike over the years. Unfortunately, more than a few of them have become iconic, even touted on this and other forums as normal, so I won't list my top contenders.

However, this has to be the dumbest guitar accessory

Right! That's really cool. I saw a lefty version, too.

I was shocked to see one of these on the back of my journeyman buddy's guitar headstock. Eventually I invested the $1.49 for my Taylor (gigging guitar) and have enjoyed it for fifteen years. Highly recommended.

Obviously any post in this thread will be immediately followed by "You're an idiot! That's the coolest thing ever! You don't know what you're talking about!"

With that being said--

I think those stick on arm rests are strange.

I also think the "guitar sleeve" is weird.

Fire away!!

You are joking, right? Having a battery operated winder has been life changing! I changed strings on three guitars-including a slothead-in about 35 minutes Monday night. And that included a wipe down and getting band aids for my bleeding fingers (note:always do the slothead last).

I guess my objection might be clarified somewhat in that context.

So what if you or I thinks a guitar accessory is “dumb”?

Maybe it isn’t dumb to someone else.

That’s all I was meaning with my earlier post.
I appreciate your efforts here, Amy. Maybe we could follow this up with a thread about the most intelligent guitar accessory ever created. :-)

I know someone who was recovering from a fingertip injury and had to pad her finger all sorts of ways to begin playing again. She probably could have put one of those finger crocs to good use!

Best,
Jayne

well, IF you were a human that produced copious quantities of perspiration, I'm pretty sure you would quickly see the smart behind sleeves.

or if you were someone whose right hand goes numb after a few minutes of playing due to pressure on the ulnar nerve from the edge of the lower bout.

Most of us see guitar playing gadgets as being pretty senseless UNTIL something happens in our lives that requires us to adapt to keep on playing. I've got several of those egg shaker things and usually take a couple to gigs so I can add a little percussion when my partner is playing his songs. I never considered using the tip of the egg as a pick (now I'm going to try it, but kinda doubtful if I'll like the sound of the egg on the strings). But the egg shaker thing has got me thinking of a way to hold it while I play to add percussion on some songs.

The Chet Atkins glove appears to be made of neoprene and could be helpful to those of us that have repetitive motion injuries in our hands. Keeping the fretting hand warm would definitely help with cramping and would reduce fatigue. I don't know but that's probably what Chet was going for and he's known for embracing innovative new products.

I thought the finger crocs were ridiculous since the first time I saw them, but they could be helpful to someone trying to play again after a finger injury. Same deal with the goofy thing you put on the guitar neck make your chords for you. My first thought was "learn to play!!", but as pointed out by Cotten it can be beneficial to folks with disabilities.

So I guess for everything I think is completely "dumb" there is a reason it could work. Who'd a thunk?

The Egg Shaker is supposed to allow you to pick a guitar and play maracas at the same time.

(Apologies in advance to anyone who has mastered this and has learned to do amazingly cool things with it.)

Egg shakers are cool!
