I have no idea of actual numbers But from many posts here on the record forum. I wonder what the actual percentage of home users that don't even use one pair monitors is --- (instead mixing on Head phones only) ?

Perhaps we should do a poll thread ?

My general feeling is there just aren't very many participants in this area of the forum. In many topics it feels a bit like folks "preaching to the choir".

I like this area of the forum but we're really mostly looking at the intersecting segments of a Venn diagram composed of acoustic guitar nerds and folks obsessed with audio recording.

I’ll chime in from the Venn intersection, coming from the entry-level recordist end of the spectrum.

I have only the basics: two-preamp interface and one pair of monitors, all effects native in the DAW. There are times lately when I’ve mused about setting up four mics for acoustic guitar (to capture ambience at distance), but I have no trouble easing back into letting the idea go — the room leaves a lot to be desired. Later this year, if the cottage we’re building in the back yard turns out to have favorable acoustics, there’s a possibility I’ll want to record two players/voices live or try that four-mic stereo guitar/ambient setup; who knows?

But it seems unlikely. I have so far to go in my skill development that the basics will serve me fine for any future I can see today.

And if I’m stressing about affording a D-18, you can bet I’ll ignore a two-grand interface. But maybe there are lots of quality hounds who will be drawn in by Neumann’s entry into interfaces. For that matter, if this model finds a market, what’s to stop Neumann from expanding the line to a four or six preamp model?

That business model is something that we often see in audio interfaces. Two grand is out of my ball park, too. (I'm just CHEAP!)

I do like the application of color LCD screens and applying the technology to other uses. As much as I see room for improvement in the Zoom R20, I own and like it.

Rudy's Zoom R20 multi-track recorder

It's been pretty quiet around here lately, so if nothing else at least it stirs up passions, both pro and con.
