Default Is this the first song about a luthier?

Sun kil moon has a new CD out called among the leaves. There is a song called "song for Richard Colleran" which describes how his long time luthier died. He describes all the setup the luthier would do for him and the care his guitars would get. It's a beautiful acoustic song. For those not familiar sun kil moon is the band name of guitarist mark Kolozolist (sp.?).

Not to my knowledge. David Milam, a talented balladeer from northeast Florida, wrote a song about his favorite luthier, Augustino LoPrinzi. I can't find an online version of that, but here's a little bit of David:

Cool. I was more thinking of commercial artists but that's pretty interesting too.

Jerrry Farris wrote "The D-18 Song (Thank You Mr Martin)" a number of decades ago, and it's since been recorded by formidable flatpickers Norman Blake, Tony Rice, and others.

This certainly is not the first luthier-inspired song, but certainly one of my favorites!

Sebastian, by Noel Stookey, is the name he gave to the custom 12 string he commissioned. He doesn't mention the builder. He only alludes to it being built for him. I still think it's a great song.
