NGD: Les Paul Junior Special
Couldn't stop myself. Been jonesing for an all-in, solid body, all P-90 guitar for a while. Saw this one for relatively not much money (compared to the Collings 290 anyway), played it, loved it, bought it.
So, some thoughts after playing it, on the sofa, through my little Yamaha THR (the Mesa will get a workout later)... MAN this thing has some gorgeous tones. Played it clean, played it hairy. Played it loud, played it quiet. Played it bridge, neck and both. Enormous palette of sound. Originally bought it thinking I might use it as a test bed for two Lollar P-90s but having listened to the stock ones... I might be rethinking that. Not impressed that Gibson only provide a gig bag–albeit a very nice gig bag–on a four figure guitar. Also not too keen on the 'lightning' bar wrap tail. Thinking I might swap that out at some point for a TonePros 'vintage' style. But might be talked into their wraparound/TOM combo for better intonation. Any other ideas for better looking/operating wrap tail replacements? (Looked at Mojoaxe, too).

Congrats, Martin! Gibson's stripped down guitars (i.e. LP Jr Special, Melody Maker, LPJ, SGJ, etc) have some great tone to them.

Use a phat cat. In the neck. Then you can pretend it's a humbucker...

I did this... I put a Phat Cat in the neck position of my Epiphone 335... love it. Now I want to swap out the bridge pickup because, no matter how silky smooth that 335 plays, there is no question that the Phat Cat makes the stock hum bucker sound like a pile of pants...

Excellent!
I recently picked up a 1958 3/4 size LP Jr. From the Podium. Talk about a screamer! Being a Gibson requires it to be retuned before, during, and after playing a song.
