The problem is you have to deal with people to sell a guitar and people are crazy :-)

That's pretty much what I say except I add that I've set a price that I believe to be very competitive for a guitar like this in this condition; however.....

It's mostly non guitar related items. I usually do better with guitars over the internet. This is stuff that's hard to ship. Motorcycle, trailer, atv, etc.

If the price is listed, "Firm" I ignore the ad.
Otherwise, I just make an offer. To the OP: I'd ignore the tire kicker. It makes no sense. When I sell, I list the price. I'll accept that price. I'll process an offer. I may say, "No!" this is commerce, eh? f-d

I'm assuming you mean if it's not a good firm price?

I'm one of those buyers/sellers who tries to see both sides, which isn't tough if you just ask how you'd like to be dealt with when on the other side. Sometimes I'll buy for the asking price without hesitation, but usually if I try to haggle it will be due to lack of present funds and just trying to justify it to myself. Sometimes I'm actually alarmed when my offer is accepted because I really shouldn't have been buying in the first place.
The most important rule for myself as either buyer or seller is to try and deal as I would like to be dealt with.

There should be no problem if a seller won't budge as long as the price is fair. No one should feel pressured to come down from a decent price.

When selling I always set a firm price that is better then reasonable and have always sold quickly (Craigslist).
If some one sends me a counter offer I add $5 to the original low price, with a smiley face. This sometimes gets me sale at the asking price
