Default Today is my 12 year stopped smoking cigarettes anniversary!

I smoked for 30 years and quit on Aug 15, 2005.
That is roughly 6,500 packs or 130,000 cigarettes that I have not smoked.
Sometimes they still smell good, when someone else first lights up.
Sometimes I still want one.
Always said that if I ever get terminal anything, the first thing is a bottle and a pack of Marlboro Reds.
But for today I am still cigarette free!

Congratulations. I know how hard that is, having done it myself. So very, very hard. Sometimes I still want one too.

However, from the day I gave up, 30 years ago, I have continued to save the money I would have spent on cigarettes (adjusting the amount annually to keep up with inflation), and over the years it has filled the house with books and art. In more recent years that same fund has provided me with a Martin HD28v, and Taylor 810e, 210 DLX, 214ce-QM DLX, and 150ce. All paid for, as I like to think, by the tobacco companies. If I'd continued to smoke, all those guitars would just have been so much smoke and ash.

Congratulations! I quit on October 29th but I'll be (expletive deleted) if I can remember the year. 2009? I think.

Anyway, your heart and lungs thank you as well as your wallet! Good on you!

I have absolutely NO desire for one. After 34 years, the big tobacco companies got all they are going to get from me.

Congratulations to all that kicked smoking Cigarettes.
I smoked over 40 years ago for a few years and stopped.
My wife of 44 years just stopped after a Heart Attack. She has not had a Cigarette in over 6 months now.

I quit in October 1997, so I'm coming up on 20 yrs. After I quit, every day I put cigarette money in a jar on my bureau until I had enough to buy a Martin D-28.

I've always said that if I make it 90 I'll take smoking back up, they say it takes about 30 years to get cancer from it, that will make me 120 years old before I die from them. That's like having a longevity pill. Twisted logic

Congratulations on you anniversary, may you have many more.

Way to go!

I think I'm at nine years this time. Over the years I quit for years at a time. I will never start again now. I am so glad I quit. I look at people in their fifties that still smoke and you can see the damage in their face etc. Friends I have in their sixties that still smoke are handicapped by it. I really am glad I quit. And I used to love it.

That is great. You are also a minority, only the 2nd person that I have heard who has actually done this or something similar.
My neighbor who told me she was quitting talked about all the money that she would have...
I told her no, and how it will most likely become absorbed into other areas.
She may not see a single penny saved, but she will look and feel more beautiful.

Congrats! Coincidentally, I quit 12 years ago this month myself.

Well done !
Having quit about 25 yrs. ago, I find the smell nauseating, and never crave one.
Best of luck & continued success.
