How do you manage your playing time

Hi all

I'm wondering how you guys manage your playing/practicing time? What do you practice and how.

I'm trying always top play as much as possible in a day. I practice a lot picking exercises with metronome (i call that right hand exercises) and i practice finger exercises and scales with my left hand for dexterity and strength (left hand exercises). I study only with Pebber Brown he has a great way of teaching IMO.
Besides of that I try to maintain and increase my repertoire. Together i come in a day on average at about 2.5 hours a day (depending is i work a lot or have holiday) in holidays i play much more.

How do you guys doing this?

I practise mostly the tune I want to learn and run through the ones I have learned so I don't forget therm. I am not into scales much but I am slowly working on learning some patterns/blues.

I practise after work - 2hrs maybe a bit more. I mis a day here and there.
practise more on the weekend.

I play for myself - no one to impress but me. I think I'd need to practise a LOT more if I wanted to perform.

If I only had time to play/practise I would improve/play beter I am sure of that.

I started a couple of months ago with performance now and then in a bar. This is very cool to do because of making music with others for others, but that for another thread

I think in a whole week i come on about 17 hours a week but i know people who play less and they perform. I try to play as much as possible just to make progress I'd like to get better.

no. I have family (wife's 2 sisters (chilean) married brasileros) in Sao Paulo.

I keep meaning to learn some...

Espanol si. Learned most of that in school here.

Technical practice comes about by playing the tunes.

cool I love latin america originaly im from the Netherlands but im married with Brasileira and live close to Sao Paulo city

I discovered when i practice a certain technique everyday for a while i become faster better in it. E.g. picking with a pick i played for a long time only with my fingers them i started to use a pick this whas so difficultt so i do this picking exercises like picking on 1 string 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16 now it goes quite easier. The same with hammers and pulls

Offcourse everybody has his own way to oractice thats why i started this thread tto see how others do it.

Well I might be crazy but I am rationing my practice time to cover classical, blues and pop/folk. I play a little bit every day, between 10 min to an hour, depending. I don't obsess or stress, but start with a goal. I make sure that I am having fun.

These days I tend to have a project or gig I'm prepping for rather than generic practice. However I usually do have one or two very difficult songs in the oven that may take me months or even years to master.

for me, these days i typically work on a current tune or two, playing all the way through, often with a metronome or to a recording. i also isolated problem spots and work on those separately.

By the way I've read the book: The Musicians Way

This is more or less a book in the same style as written in the article mc1 recommend. It is a very good book and have some really good advise on practice efficient.

The plan is, now that busy season is over, to play at least 1/2 hour during the week, more on weekends. Initially doing mostly right hand work as I want to conquer using finger picks. This all starts tonite. There is a lot of housework and yardwork to be done around here (we both work) so sitting on my butt when there are things that need to be done irks me.
