Default Jonathan Razo - "The Tree" Mahogany/German Spruce GA

I would like to share with you some pictures of my recently completed commissioned build with Jonathan Razo - his Grand Auditorium model.

For this build we selected a set of sausage curl "Tree" mahogany for the back and sides and a German Spruce top. The rosette utilizes a blue-green dyed maple burl, maple purfling, ebony and abalone as do the headstock inlay and end cap. The beveled top is also outlined with abalone. All body binding was done in ebony with maple purfling . I also opted for an ebony bound sound port.

I've had the guitar for two weeks and it has been a pure joy to play. The sound, playability and workmanship are all top notch. Like any guitar, I expect the sound will continue to bloom with additional play time which I will happily provide.

Specifications and pictures are below:

Specifications:

Tree Mahogany back and sides
German Spruce top
Razo Ebony Bridge

Looks beautiful, Doug--just the right amount of bling with clean, tasteful design elements. Another beauty from Jonathan.

If you ever tire of giving it additional playing time just send it my way, and I'll continue breaking it in for you!

Congrats!

Congratulations Doug!! I remember you talking about this wood and build back at the Memphis guitar show in 2015. I'm glad to see it now finished and you enjoying it. Gorgeous guitar!

Really beautiful guitar Doug. A big congratulations for both you and Jonathan for making his first "tree" guitar an absolute stunner.

Default Razo Tree Mahogany - German Spruce GA

Todd, Kevin, TomB, Dave, Jim, Nootis, Mike, ExpoTom and Howard...thank you for your gracious comments.

Jay thank you for your kind words and more importantly for sourcing the lovely set of Tree that Jonathan used.

Marcus...thank you for your complimentary comment. Playing your Lucky Tree Michaud OM-R in Memphis a couple years ago was a personal highlight of that show and demonstrated to me the sound potential available from the Tree mahogany in the hands of a skilled builder.

Ryan...You and Steve have set a high bar for luthiers well beyond the Lone Star State so your kind words are greatly appreciated! Look forward to seeing you again at Woodstock.

Thank you also to those who have sent PM's. One asked about the color selection for the maple burl. Jonathan blended together blue and green dyes..the resulting blue-green shading struck just the right color balance complimenting both the coloring of the finished "Tree" mahogany and blue-green abalone.

Thanks to all for looking in!
