Default Going over to the Dark Side...

Yep. I'm doomed. The Mrs. is getting me an upright bass for Christmas/50th Birthday. I'm still planning on being primarily a guitar player but some times it's good to be versatile.

So, anyone know any good forums for bluegrass bass players? Oh, and yes I know exactly how much of a pin in the butt an upright bass is to haul arround. That's why I love my guitar. Suggestions are welcomed!

Nothing like the sound of an upright bass. Best of luck. For your forum, try here:

That's not the dark side! It's acoustic! You're still good to go.

That is dark - in a fun way. And now you get to build a new addition to store the thing.

AWESOME! Good luck - I've always wanted to give it a shot - I may try and rent one, otherwise my wife might have an issue... Give yours a big hug for being wonderful! :-)

Now you're talking!!!! I've been slapping on an upright bass like it owes me money for about 12 or 13 years now. If you have a good sense of time, learn to play simply and tastefully, are dependable and easy to get along with, you'll find yourself in high demand. I played electric bass since high school and had a good understanding of the role of the bass, especially for blues, country and other roots music, before I tried the doghouse bass. I found myself playing in a top notch bluegrass band within 3 months of starting on the upright with musicians way more advanced than I was.

If you're into bluegrass here's a real friendly and supportive forum to visit-http://www.bassgrass.com/forum/

I love bass, both electric and stand-up. I went on a two month tour as a bass player, and finally (got it). Meaning, what bass playing is really all about, and not just a guitar player playing bass lines. As much as I love guitar, I could put it down for a year and just dig into bass playing... and might at some point.
