Default How to remove super glue stain?

Is it possible to remove superglue stain from satin finish without affecting the finish? There's a drop of superglue on the side of my guitar and it's dried up Got there accidentally. I'm sending it in. I wonder if they can remove it. Thanks.

If that can be done (doubt it) that would be one skilled guitar tech! It may need to be sanded/polished out and then the finish touched up to get it back to normal.

Super-glue (CA aka cyanoacrylite) can be removed from some finishes with acetone (nail polish remover) because it does not react with SOME finishes. Taylor satin finishes, for example, cannot be done this way since acetone also melts the finish. Depending which type of satin finish your guitar has, it may be appropriate to use acetone, or it may require sanding/buffing as the other poster stated.

Default acetone

Acetone is a dandy thinner for nitrocellulose lacquer.

If a drop of CA on an instrument finish just plain grates on you, carefull scraping with a single-edged razor blade after masking off the area to be scraped may do the job. Experimenting on something other than the instrument itself may also be a wise idea.

Or get the instrument to your favorite luthier to get the job done.

Unfortunately that sounds like something that may just get worse the more you try to get it off, especially on a satin finish.
Good luck, and keep us posted on what your luthier/tech say's.

CA is used frequently to touch up dings on guitar surfaces, then scraped and polished to a gloss finish.

Do the same thing, only don't polish it up Scuff it with a scotchbrite, then polish it with 400 then 600 then 800 then 1500 grit....stopping when the surface roughness matches

If the finish is catalyzed polyester, acetone works great. On lacquer, the options are limited. Sand or scrape it off, then use 0000 steel wool to simulate the satin.

This might have some helpful info link. The scraping with the razor blade (47 seconds in). Also sanding.

Good luck.
