What Carbon sounds most like a 1967 Gibson J45?
First day of a week's vacation break and we are snowed in. Sitting this morning with all my Carbons and got out my old 1967 Gibson J45. New strings on everything how do these Carbon stack up to my old High School Guitar. Reality the Gibson is probably the clear winner. It has just become a great acoustic over those many years, But one of my carbon guitars at least sounds like it, can you guess which one?
1. Rainsong JM 1000 BI 2. Rainsong OM 1000 Cassic 3. Rainsong P12 Parlor 4. Emerald Doubleneck (6 side)

I'd like to think the doubleneck, but I doubt that's it. I don't RSs at all, but I speculate it's one of the full-bodied models. The OM maybe? Is there a prize?!

Got to be the RainSong Jumbo Black Ice.
I played a RainSong Jumbo Black Ice over the weekend at Elderly in Lansing, MI. Since I have two RainSong WS size guitars, I recognized the familiar RainSong tone, . . . but was still surprised at the additional volume and fullness provided by the Jumbo body over the WS body. I was further surprised by the light weight of the Jumbo, . . . which, if anything, might have felt lighter than my WS RainSongs. The Jumbo felt dramatically lighter than a new Taylor Grand Orchestra (918 model)that was also on display at Elderly. |

What surprised me too was how heavy the Gibson J45 felt after I have been playing nothing but carbons lately, that old J45 is an extremely light wood guitar. No question the JM1000 seems the lightest of the bunch when you know it cant be. Steve

I actually thought at the time I did this the Emerald sounded the most like the J45 but obviously does not compete with it. New strings on the JM1000 may have turned me. Can't criticize the last answer either

Recorded all of them, you can see what you think, the Emerald at the end did not have new strings but included it.

To my ear, the OM 1000 by far sounded most like the J45 (that was my poll vote, though it was just a wild guess). Surprisingly (to me at least), the Parlor wasn't too far off, with the Emerald being distant but still very pleasing (I found that the Emerald sounded the weakest among the recordings...I'm hoping it was the strings!). I found that the JM 1000 sounded the least like the J45. Not a bad sound, but a little too crystalline and clear to my taste. Personally, I wouldn't care for a guitar with that sound.

The Parlor sounds closest to my ear. The Emerald sounds more balmy but it would be 2nd.
