Could be a few things guitar related - not the fault of the mike - mikes just pick up things you don't hear sitting behind the guitar. Experiment.

the composites I've played are pretty non-projective from the back and sides. The player rarely hears what everyone else (including a mic) hears.

How do you know what it sounds like unless you first record it and then play it back listening to it through properly placed flat near field monitors?
