Default Auralex

http://www.auralex.com/

My question regarding these products are; 1. Anybody using these just to improve the quality of sound in your practice room? They are made to improve recording, which I'm not yet doing, but I assume they would also help control feedback and allow "home playing" to be closer to "playing out" SPL? And, 2. They are pricey, so is this overkill for my application? Would I better off just buying blackout curtains? My room size is 12x14.

I have looked at the "recording" section, specifically Fran Guidry's video on how to build one. My takeaway was that for recording purposes... you need a lot of these panels, as the goal is to completely deaden the room. I'm hoping that two of the Auralex panels on mic stands will get the desired result. Feedback (no pun intended) much appreciated as I'm completely devoid of knowledge in this subject matter. Thanks.

Search for info from Ethan Winer; I think you'll find that Owens-Corning 703 would be better to use, but not to completely deaden the room, just to tame it.

What 'Auralex panels' are you looking at? - your link was to thier main page.

Foam will help with flutter echo issues, but not with mid-low or low frequencies - these are unlikely to be a real issue if you are not recording, but if you are trying to amplify to large room size/volume in a small room, it's just impractical.

Thinking of this one

http://www.auralex.com/product/promax/

portable, relatively small footprint. But pricey.

I did read some of Ethan Winer pubs.... very technical and, I thought overkill for my goals. But thanks for the "heads up", apparently he is the "source" for recording studio set up.

These could be used in front of a mic to absorb the soundwaves before they bounce off walls in front and side and make their way back to the mic - somewhat effective for recording.
They're going to do very little for you in a practice room. If you're trying to absorb flutter echo (it's not clear what you are really trying to do), you can buy some moving blankets at Harbor Frieght for $6 each and hang them around the room. If you got a bunch of old quilts or duvets in the house, you could use those as well. Any of these choices will give you about the same effect.

Thanks for the reply MbM... my goal is to increase volume without hitting the feedback threshold. I'm currently using a couple of quilts and, they help, but only moderately.

Ok, why do you want to get that much louder (enough to cause feedback?) Preserve your hearing now, you'll be thankful in 20 years (take it from someone with tinnitus!)
If quilts don't work, then a couple of the Aurlalex panels won't do much for you either.
