Greven Guitar Opinions
I was wondering what people's opinions experiences of Greven guitars has been? Specifically in comparison with Santa Cruz, Fairbanks, Martin, and John Walker guitars.
Thanks! |

His work in the 80s was not very good but he's become a much better Builder and I'm sure his work is top-notch these days .

If I didn’t build and I was in the market for a guitar, Johns guitars would be on my short list. If you like true vintage vibe, that’s his wheelhouse.

I have owned L-00 guitars from all these builders.
Walker; superb craftsmanship, great trebles and mid range w/ a woody bass Martin; superb craftsmanship and more Martin tone than a Gibson replica Fairbanks; Great lightweight build with excellent clarity on all strings. I favor The Fairbanks and own 3. Greven; I had an L-00 that I was not overly impressed with. Sold it and bought a used Greven L-00 that is the only newer build that sounds and feels like an old guitar. Awesome! I have a 1930's Carson Robinson ladder braced L-00 that is just a killer. The Greven sounds so close it, just a little smoother due to X bracing. Oddly enough I am selling it to fund my Montouro due later this year. Very difficult decision but I have the L-00 style covered. If I did not own the Carson the Greven would be staying! I have found that when you get into this quality of guitar it becomes a very personal decision. One is not necessarily better than another. Style of music played, picking style, picks, bare finger, strings, etc make a big impact on which guitar is right for you. They will all due the job nicely. hbone |

Only had one...
I had a lovely Greven 00. Light and LOUD. Had a few very minor visual imperfections, but feel and tone were very very nice. I understand he builds fast, just like the folks whose work he replicates.
Cheers Paul
