Default Cumpiano OO - German Silver Spruce/Brazilian Rosewood - SALE SUSPENDED UNTIL SPRING.

Gonna pull this sale back until the weather warms up. Not really shipping weather right now. Save your pennies, because I'll be back come spring!

----

After pulling it out of the case, I'm definitely having second thoughts. And after looking at the prices of some of the guitars on this forum, I can tell I'm probably under-priced by a country-mile. So, yes, I feel foolish, but what the hey. Get it while it's hot. Before someone else does.

A beautiful little Cumpiano OM/OO-sized guitar in a Brazilian rosewood/German Silver Spruce combination.

The tone woods on this guitar are an amazing combination and absolutely stunning--you will not be disappointed. I spoke to Mr Cumpiano about this guitar--he said he received this Brazilian rosewood in 1971 and set it aside for over 30 years before he even started building this guitar.

If you know anything about guitar building, you will recognize the Cumpiano name--he is the one who literally 'wrote the book' on luthiery, has displayed at the Smithsonian, the whole nine yards. You can read more about him here, if you are interested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_R._Cumpiano. He runs a small one-person shop in Massachusetts.

Short scale (25"), 1 3/4" at the nut, 2-5/16 inches at the bridge, and 14 1/8" across the lower bout.

--Max. Body width: 14-1/8 inches
--Bone saddle.
--Neck to body joint is a bolt on. He did an online 'update' to his book some time back that details the construction: https://www.cumpiano.com/an-improved-neck-body-joint
--Catalyzed finish, per Mr. Cumpiano
--There is an adjustable truss rod in the neck. Incidentally, Mr. Cumpiano also told me that he designed them to be replaceable without tearing apart the neck.

A couple more measurements taken by me:
--Action is 5/64 on the low E string, at the 14th fret (where the neck meets the body).
--String height above the soundboard (just in front of the bridge) is 29/64 on the low E string. It is 26/64 on the high e string.
--Spacing at the nut from center to center on the E to e: 1 15/32
--Spacing at the nut from center of e to edge of fretboard: 4/32
--Spacing at the nut from center of E to edge of fretboard: 4/32
(Actually, those are may both be more towards 9/64ths, but it was kind of hard to measure exactly.)
--Strap pin and end pin professionally drilled for pickup install by Randy Wood (another great luthier in Savannah GA)

There are no cracks and no crack repairs of any kind.

Sound is always so subjective, but I would describe it as having a very pleasing, melodic quality, almost piano-like, and with loads of sustain. You can research German Silver Spruce--it's quite a special wood. For what it's worth, my wife has commented on the tone of this guitar and she's not usually one to notice stuff like that. Suits finger style extremely well because it is just so responsive. And the spruce can take just about anything you would throw at it with a pick.

Overall 9.9 out of 10. Very slight fret wear in the typical DAG area. The guitar has some minor finish blemishes, all of which were with it when it came to me. The finish on a few small portions along the side edges of the ebony fret board did not adhere correctly. If it bothered you, I am sure you could get it re-done. A couple tiny impressions just behind the saddle, one tiny impression above the sound hole. Not really photographable, but I've done my best to capture its condition in detailed photos.

Properly humidified, kept in the case, in non-smoking home. You will not be disappointed!

Buy this one and be one of the very few to say they have owned a Cumpiano.

$3750, plus 3% pp'd and actual shipping. That is a steal for this guitar.

Default Update

Thanks Col!

I've updated the ad to answer a few questions from folks. Here's the additional detail:

--Neck to body joint is a bolt on. He did an online 'update' to his book some time back that details the construction: https://www.cumpiano.com/an-improved-neck-body-joint
--Catalyzed finish, per Mr. Cumpiano
--There is a truss rod in the neck.

There are no cracks and no crack repairs of any kind.

I hope that helps get all you GASsing for one amazing guitar!

Lovely guitar, but I'm a little confused by the description. Is it 00 or 000/OM size?

I think it's best classified as a 14 fret OO. Sorry if the post was confusing.

Looks like a mighty fine guitar. Good luck with your sale. I would jump on it but I would want to play it first.

What a gorgeous guitar! The black ink lines in the Brazilian Rosewood is stunning. When I built my three acoustic guitars from scratch, I was using Cumpiano's book.

This has to be the best deal here on the AGF IMHO. I bet it sounds like a grand piano!! If I had the $$$$, it would be on its way to my house!
