Thank you.

I spent more personal time on the abalone fingerboard extension trim than some American Guitar manufacturers claim to spend on an entire guitar. Because I am working off permanently installed previous purflings as I go around, no unseen error is possible. There can be no smoke and mirrors, no tricks, just near perfect work or trouble. I find this stressful and exhausting, but immensely satisfying when it goes well. I have found that spending some time worrying in advance about a process such as this gets the ducks in line much better than wading in unprepared.

I have seen a bit of flack given for photos posted which are not art unto themselves, and feel a bit insecure right now about offering these. I think of my ongoing documentation of my work here as photo-journalism, not the art itself. I do hope you readers can see past my not quite masterful camera skills and into the work I mean to be sharing with you.

Here is a glimpse of the Current Single 0 with its first coat of Varnish which I applied minutes ago:

That is one gorgeous little single 0. Silking is popping on that top. Your work is amazing Bruce. Love every bit of it (including the pics).

Well I was beaten by two obviously very intelligent, observant, and likely good looking fellows, but I too wanted to say that silking in that top is quite amazing. I really like all the abalone on this one as well as the headstock inlay. Bravo.

Nice!

It looks like you've varnished the dovetail joint on the neck. I don't think I've noticed or even seen this before. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
cheers, Steve

As good as that silking looks under the first coats of oil varnish, you should have heard how well it tapped compared to other sets that we considered. This set of German Spruce came from Martin Guhl as did the tops on my other guitars made by Bruce.

You are looking at over -spray. i will clean it off before joining the neck to the body. I could tape off the dovetail, but see no point in it.

I was thinking it was time to show off the dreads I made last month, and while today is not ideal for photography, it seems to be Okay for songstering. I had a career quite a few years ago as a singer/songwriter, and today I was moved to write my first complete song in over 20 years, 2 hours old. This is a very raw rendition, but I thought I'd share it anyway:

Passin it Around (c 2017)

The guitar is the Sitka over EIR "AGF" dread.
