Default Share your favourite old Cowboy and Americana songs.

I'm sure some of you know old cowboy and folk songs without copyrights. Many of these songs have survived cause they where made famous throught early cowboy films and records. But maybe they where sung very different in the olden days. There is many sources online for lyrics, but not so much for chords.

The beauty of it is that even if we all share chords and lyrics, our music will all sound very different. There are no the version of these like famous pop/rock hits. That's liberating.

So, if somebody would like to share their dusty tumbleweed chords and lyrics, please, do it here in this tread!

One of my favorites is Murphey Michael Martin version of O Bury Me Not On The Lone Praire. Really original.

Here is it is, old style by Carl T. Sprague - The Original Singing Cowboy
I detect an Irish accent, though Wikipedia says he grew up on a farm near Houston, Texas..

OK, HHP, so we're two with cowboy hats...haha
I'm kinda flabbagasted over her... in Europe I might add..
I really imagined there would be a lot of love and enthusiasm for cowboy music in this forum. But I guess boring blues is more popular..

Tom Russell is a big promoter of this type of material and he's recorded several albums and written a bunch of good tunes.

Just a couple of good ones....

"Llano Estacado":

And his classic, "El Gallo Del Cielo".... Likely the best song ever written about cockfighting (and possibly the only one..In English:

This probably doesn't count either - too new, but at least the subject matter is good:

I truly am a retired Rodeo Cowboy and all we listened to was Chris Ledoux in my hay day. Young cowboys still listen to Chris even though he has left this earth (God Bless Him).
