They both have the traditional "Gibson" sound, they just differ by degrees. The J-45 is a little more percussive and nasally. The top on the J-45 is still very new so the guitar still sounds tight.

The Jubel is smoother, and I would say better balanced. It has the dry, thuddy Gibson sound, but it also has a lot of overtones. I think that it is a more versatile guitar, but as the J-45 ages, they probably will sound more similar.
Both guitars have a very well developed bass, (which was surprising), and they both have endless headroom. I think that the Jubel sounds better fingerpicked as it doesn't need as much energy to drive the top.

This is very much what it sounds like

I have a 92 AJ, would this be redundant?

Actually they are very different instruments. The AJ is a long scale guitar with rosewood back and sides while the Jubel is short scale with mahogany back and sides. I believe that the X angle is the same, but the braces have a different profile. The body of the original jumbo does not taper hardly at all from the neck block to the heel while the AJ is much more pronounced.

The two guitars compliment each other nicely, in my opinion. A lot of people have an AJ as well as a J-45.

I thought you had referenced a 53 J45. Is it a reproduction? I have played a 50s J45 recently and was hoping to get a clearer picture in my head of the sound of this guitar. Not a big deal just wondering.

Look on page one of this thread. That is where the comparison is.

I see where the confusion is, sorry I thought that I had mentioned it. The '53 J-45 was re-topped by Kerry Char here in Portland. It used to have the skin from an interior door on it by someone that was using it as a wall decoration.

Here are the before and after pictures.
