Villa-Lobos: Etude #3
Hi,
Here is a video from my 12/1/16 performance at Mannes School of Music' guitar soloists concert of Villa-Lobos' Etude #3; I hope you enjoy: |

Good job. Piece continues along without much let up. To me it is not a very attractive piece of music. Have you been motivated post performance to keep playing it, perhaps increasing the tempo somewhat, or are you done with it and moving on to other things?

Nice!
I've got all 5 of the preludes memorized currently, and am playing them on a daily basis, trying to improve them. Just wonderful pieces of music for guitarists. #1, 3 and 5 are favorites. I find that tieing all the separate sections together musically and getting the tempo right, in all the preludes, is the the real challenge in this music. It also provides room for individual approaches. Great job on Etude 3! (I'm just enthusiastic on Villa-Lobos music in general!

Hi Derek,
Thanks. I'm not a big Villa-Lobos fan on the whole, but I happen to like this etude. I'm always motivated to keep practicing it to get it faster and for it to stop feeling like as much as a technical exercise as a musical performance. |
