Learning a new song
When learning a new song it is usually about getting a handle on memory rather than developing some new technique.
At first it's mental memory from point to point. As you speed up more "muscle memory" (call that something else if you prefer) is called into play - you have less time to think second to second and need to think ahead to a small set of established memory "points". Something to think about during your next new tune wood-shedding.
