I was thinking about buying a highway 1 stratocaster online from a seller...

Default Highway 1 strats

http://www.kellyindustries.com/guita..._highway1.html

Try this link. It was in a classified post that I found to be enlightening.
Seems to be one of the better Strats available for the money these days.

I have a Highway One tele... good link oldhippie put up. Basically it's a USA assembled guitar, with the metal hardware same as used in a MIM Fender. And the finish is satin... probably better to get an '06 or newer model, as they switched from poly to a nitro finish for the body in '06 (though I believe the neck still gets a satin finish using poly). Thus over time, the nitro body will fadeout similar to a old Fender. OTOH the '06 change switched the headstock to 70s styling, & that may not be to your taste...

At any rate, I think if you find one for a good price, it's a real good platform for customizing w/ hardware improvements; p'up upgrades, bridges, etc. to get a DIY custom guitar...

If you're going to purchase one as a platform I would suggest looking for a good condition used MIM to start with. You'll save 50% and still do the same changes. That or get a bargain on a MIA Standard or Deluxe and leave it like you find it.

The MIM Strats have Corona USA necks on them. Find a MIM on sale with a great neck, drop in a pickguard loaded with Texas Specials or Lace Sensor pickups and you'll have a great guitar.

Basically, the Highway 1 series is amazing... I am biased because I have one, but I really like it. It is great for the money and you are getting an american guitar with hot pickups for under a grand. I don't plan on upgrading, I have the flat black and it looks great and the finish is unique.
