Default 1st 45, 33, or 78 you oldtimers bought

Since quite a few of us grew up in the 40's, 50's and 60's when 45's were king, I thought I'd add this to the thread on your first album. Here we go.... mine was Dean Martin>"When the Moon hits Your Eye..." yeah I know...kinda corny! But I had the band play that at my wedding.........

My grandmother used to buy my sister and me a 45 on alternating weeks. We'd give her our wish list and she'd deliver when she got paid on Fridays. As I recall my first one was Little Deuce Coop by the Beach Boys. I'm not sure, but I believe they cost $0.75 each. She was a seamstress in a textile mill, so this was a generous offering. Sweet memories.

It is quite likely that this is the first 45 RPM record I bought or requested that my parents buy me:

It remains one of my very favorite songs.

I think 78 RPM records went out of production when I would have been 7 or 8 years old.

I'm not sure, but I think the 45 was "She Loves You," by the Beatles. First 33 was "Meet The Beatles." I never bought a 78 though my parents had quite a few of them when I was a kid in the '50s.

No 78's here.

First 45 was Feelin' Alright by Grand Funk Railroad.

First 33 was Willy and the Poorboys by CCR.

Don't remember the first 45, but it could have been "Hello Mary Lou / Travelin' Man) by Ricky Nelson.

My first LP was "Meet the Beatles." I can remember sitting in my 8th grade home room with it on my desk, feeling as cool as could be.

I only bought 33 rpm lp's. My first was a K-Tel Rocks Greatest Hits collection, shortly followed by Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall. I am still into collecting lp's.

1958:

Lonnie Donegan : "The Grand Coulee Dam" / "Nobody Loves Like an Irishman" UK No. 6

and

Elias And His Zig-Zag Jive Flutes: Tom Hark / Ry-Ry

In thosedays they'd ask "45 or 78?"

We had a Decca Stereogram so we got 45s.

Lonnie Donegan was a banjo player in a dixieland jazz band but is known for promting what we called "skiffle" and introduced the British youth tothe songs of Leadbelly and Woodie Guthrie etc.
